  Architecture BRIO is actively engaged in the creation of contextually appropriate solutions within an increasingly changing world. Set up in Mumbai in April 2006, it is a design-based practice focusing primarily on the fields of Architecture and Interior Design. Its principals are Robert Verrijt (TUDelft, the Netherlands) and Shefali Balwani (C.E.P.T, India).

  It is a practice that works with a thorough understanding of Architecture and its related fields. It seeks to develop design as its core strength and primary focus. Its uniqueness lies in the diverse backgrounds and cultures that its principals are rooted in. Combining exposure and knowledge in European forte of innovation and detailing with the richness of Asian tradition and culture it has developed a design philosophy that goes beyond the norm.

  The firm works intensively with engineers, consultants, designers and the client, welcoming new insights that can lead to specific innovative solutions. It believes strongly in design as a process with an intensive dialogue. It uses models, both physical and virtual, as tools for communication between clients, engineers and architects. This encourages programmatic and engineering concepts to be fully integrated into the design right from the conception.

  The practice currently has a broad range of projects both in the public and private realm. It thrives at the idea of this wide variety and scales of its projects and is not defined by a particular genre. Regardless of a projects scale, a common basis of the practice is its commitment to exemplary planning, design and execution. It approaches a design brief in an open and explorative manner before arriving at a common standpoint. This then acts as a clear concept, which guides the design process.

  Aesthetics, technological and environmentally friendly innovativeness are the corner stones of its guiding philosophy. Creating solutions for a context where architecture is continuously affected by scarcity is an inherent part of its design philosophy. Scarcity, whether it is in terms of the availability of materials and energy, building time, skilled labour, financial scarcity or restrictions due to remote locations of projects. Architecture BRIO's approach to tackling these constraints is to search for smart solutions. The solutions should not only solve but also resonate the complex problems out which they arise in the first place.

  The practice believes that there is a need to promote rapid, widespread acceptance of sustainable solutions. The challenge is to generate fresh ideas that carry out self-sufficient systems on a large scale. The potentials of new building techniques, re-appropriating materials in an effective and durable way, and intelligent energy concepts should be uncovered and integrated in an innovative way in architecture. With energy reduction and sustainability as a starting point attempts to create innovative and exciting architecture. BRIO, much like the name, is about buildings that give energy both literally and metaphorically and therefore inspire and make people happy.

  An award winning student from Delhi’s famed School of Planning and Architecture, Namrata Kashyap began her career as a Landscape Architect in 1997. Her illustrious profile includes projects like the ACC Cement Works, Jindal Steel Works Township, Goa Marriott Resort, Naval Golf course… the list is endless. Working with nature and conservation has always been her great passions.

  We being Landscape architects, primarily design outdoor and public spaces to achieve environmentally sustainable, functional and aesthetic pleasing habitats. It involves the systematic investigation of existing social, ecological, and geological conditions and processes in the landscape, and the design interventions that will produce the desired outcome. Our scope of the work includes Site planning, Environmental restoration, Recreation spaces, Green Infrastructure planning and provision, all at varying scales of design, planning and management. We design keeping in mind the individual approach taking into consideration the special requirement of every location and setting.

  Grassroots was founded to create an interdisciplinary environmental planning and design firm that places responsibility, integrity and balance of human, natural and cultural resources at the forefront of project development and resource management Our research strategy is driven by a central concern with issues of sustainable urban, regional and environmental development. We see the basic principles of sustainable development as an over-arching set of concepts and imperatives that can guide development processes.

  We work with Government Authorities as well as Private sectors on projects related to Development planning ,Architecture and Environmental conservation. In addition to our experience on Environment management and Environment Impact assessment and Ecocity development and Ecotourism we work on Landscape designs for Commercial Residential and Industrial developments. Ornamental landscaping with an inclination towards ecological landscaping and water conservation are our areas of strength.

  Grassroots has won the H2H Competition for Design for Water Harvesting for THREE consecutive years and has also worked successfully with the MMRDA Environment Society on THREE research projects.

  Mr. Navalkar heads the Engineering Coordination & Development for all Across Beyond Projects.

  He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay and is a Certified GRIHA trainer. He was a Founder Director of DFX Systems Pvt. Ltd, one of the premier MEP Consultancy organizations of Mumbai. Having gleaned substantial exposure from diverse industrial segments and back office operations, Navalkar has been closely associated with Design & Planning, Tendering, Energy Conservation Strategies, Green Building Design and LEED certification.

  He has personally handled major projects in Air-Conditioning, SCADA & Telemetry, Water Management, and Building Management & Security Systems and has successfully overseen more than a 100 projects.

  During his tenure at DFX Systems, Mr. Navalkar has provided guidance and expertise in designing Green Buildings and providing solutions in Energy Conservation and Water Management Strategies for Hotels, Hospitals, Industrial Plants, Commercial Complexes, IT Parks, Malls and Multiplexes. During this period he has over 100 completed projects under his belt.

  Mr Navalkar has been associated with the ECOTEL certification process for Hotels as an Associate with HVS Global Hospitality Services over the last 12 years. In addition he has been associated with Design of Green Buildings as per LEED and GRIHA standards.
